You already made up your mind to make your own garden stones. You already researched how to construct them, and you already canvassed for materials. There’s just one little problem. How do you decorate them?
For those lucky few who naturally have a talent with art, then this whole activity would probably be a cinch. For the rest of us though, any kind of decorating still poses a wee bit of a problem. Luckily for us, crafting our own garden stepping stones is not as hard as we initially think.
The first thing you have to do is to visualize how you would want your stones to look like. Go outside, and imagine where the stones will be laid. Take into consideration the overall feel of your garden landscaping, and how your personalized garden stones would fit in it.
Once you have that in mind, it will then be easier for you to select what materials to use. A simple but elegant look can easily be achieved by using a leaf motif for your garden stepping stones. Take a couple of big leaves, (rhubarb and hosta leaves are an excellent choice), use them as a mold, and when it is time to peel it off, voila! You already have your leaf stepping stones. Leaves generally appear the same so this look fosters uniformity.
Another type of look is to make use of white and beige pebbles. Jazz them up with a couple of seashells and you will be getting that classic beach air for your garden.
On the other hand, if you want to go with a more funky style, patio paints, shiny stones, and glass or tile mosaics are for you. These types of styling add color and fun to an otherwise dull landscaping. They are also more interesting to look at, as each stone can have its own groovy design.
Once you have decided which pattern to choose, go ahead and do more research. Look into pictures this time, check out what other people have done with their personalized garden stones. Sooner or later, you will find yourself creating your own style and design.
