The Futon Mattress Phenomenon
A futon mattress is a great way to provide quick and easy bedding for your house. Futon mattresses originally came from Japan and have been adopted into the US. The futon mattresses that are used in Japan are usually made out of cotton and are very thin. They are easily folded up and stored in the closet until it is time for bed. In the States we have now adopted a futon frame and mattress which allows the futon to become much larger and more permanent. This isn’t always a good thing because you lose portability, but it fits more with the American lifestyle.
The futon mattress can be used with or without a futon mattress frame, however. A bed futon mattress will usually have the frame, while a simple futon matress will not.
As I mentioned, a futon mattress is often made of cotton. It is important to flip a cotton futon mattress often and air it out so that it doesn’t become lumpy. It is very easy for a cotton futon mattress to do just that. To combat lumpiness, some people are making futon mattresses that have foam in them as well as cotton. This greatly reduces the lumpy futon mattress syndrome and you won’t need to worry about flipping your futon mattress as much or airing it out.
There are other types of futon mattresses as well. They include the polyester futon mattress and the wool futon mattress. These are both excellent alternatives to a regular futon mattress. Polyester is generally firmer while wool is generally softer. You can get whichever you like better. Another type of futon mattress is the spring futon mattress. This is a lot more expensive and also more comfortable. You get the best of both worlds with this futon mattress. It is however less fold-able and therefore not as space friendly. So only choose this option of a futon mattress if you have plenty of available space.
A futon mattress cover is a great idea to enhance your futon mattress. If you get tired of the same old futon mattress look that you’ve had for years, getting a few futon mattress covers can be a great way to diversify the look of your living room. It’ll be as if you have a brand new futon mattress every time your friends come over! This is a great way to save money and yet keep the look of your house fresh and new.
