A console table is not just a piece of furniture that is superfluous or decorative to hold flowers or to use a table below a mirror. It is also a practical solution to storage in narrow or cramped or really small spaces that would otherwise go unused. Here are some ideas:

Storage of Towels in Baskets

1. Use one or two narrow console tables in a hallway as storage for towels, paper, toiletries or other items, even small articles of linen, but since the console is usually open, use small baskets to hold the items on the one or two shelves below the table top. Small baskets that have white linen or cotton lining are ideal when used with a wooden mission table, and are not just good for small items or trinkets but can be placed lengthwise to hold larger items…..for example if you place a narrow table outside the bathroom, you can roll your extra towels and place them in the baskets. It’s an uncluttered way to store them, with easy access and a clean crisp look that actually adds to the area.

Store Glassware and Copper Pots

2. Use narrow console tables made of glass or mirror to accent an entryway but also use it as storage for umbrellas, books, magazines, or even such things as china or glassware. Make the ordinary look extraordinary by displaying it on a shelf. Even a bowl or glass vase or a series of tin pots or copper pans that are not used daily may decorate an entry….especially practical is the entry leads into a kitchen or dinning area.

Wine Service Consoles

3. Use wine serving console table designs as entryway decorations, but also as practical places to serve guests wine and cheese at small home cocktail parties. The slim wine consoles look like normal tables but have a few extra features like places for glasses and bottles of wine. When not in use, store extra wine bottles or goblets or glasses and keep them safe yet handy.
